Wedding Gowns – Here We Have A Wedding Dress Designer’s View

Posted June 10, 2011 by in Articles | No comments yet

Since I was a child, I loved wedding gowns. I used to sneak in to my mother’s closet to look at her wedding gown when she wasn’t home. She had no issue with showing it to me, however if she had known how many hours I spent pretty much drooling over it, she most likely would have freaked out a bit. I had pretty childish tastes back then – unsurprising since I was a child. I loved wedding gowns because they looked so fluffy and soft. They were similar to cakes, and they made whomever wore them look partway between a princess and a pastry. I could not get enough.

Back when I was buying discount wedding gowns at thrift stores and wearing them to school with assorted punk rock alterations to shock my school-teachers, I never imagined that one day I would be a wedding designer. See, as much as I loved wedding gowns, I wasn’t specifically enamored of weddings. I was quite independent, and I could not envision spending my whole life with one guy, raising kids, and living in a tedious suburban corner of the world like my folks did. I wanted action and adventure. I wished to be a park ranger or a mountain climber, or perhaps a pro photographer.

One thing I didn’t want to be was a bride. I’ve never been a person who was totally in to weddings. I was never planning my dream wedding, selecting my wedding songs and writing lists of my bridesmaids since I was 5 years old. I never heard standard love songs that people use for wedding songs on the radio and immediately exclaimed, “That’s going on my list of wedding songs!”

Nonetheless, in spite of my general lack of interest in the overall concept of weddings, I was still amazed by wedding fashion. I loved when I got to see outdoor weddings at the neighborhood park. We lived by a gorgeous state park complete with the lakes, rivers, and gorgeous rolling hills. There was a small wedding chapel there, and they would frequently rent it out. My boyfriend at the time must have believed I was sending him messages! I made him sit there with me all afternoon, watching the wedding party. Possibly he thought I had dreams of long term romance, but such feelings were furthest from my mind. I was focused on it merely from a fashion perspective.

Now that I’m getting ready for my own wedding, I’m struck by how dissimilar the experience is from that of helping other individuals get ready for their big day. Designing wedding gowns is easy. Even though there are retro designs, modern designs, classic designs, and many other variations, it does not amount to all that much variety. There are only a couple of things to keep track of, and if you love the clothes it is easy. Picking out one for yourself, however, is another matter. It is most likely the hardest part is getting married.
